VERACITY: The Walk to Please Spirit

Nana Ɔkomfo Mena Yaa Bradua Adubea, born Althea Gravesandy in Jamaica, migrated to the United States in the early 1980s. She is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, School of Physical Therapy, and has built an extensive career in healthcare. The title Ɔkomfo was bestowed upon her after completing her studies in Akan Cosmology in Ghana, West Africa. She also holds a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine, further expanding her expertise in integrative care. Through her practice, Nature Works For You LLC, she offers advanced manual therapies, including Craniosacral Therapy and Somato-Emotional Release, as well as complementary therapies that support and enhance allopathic medical care.

Nana Mena Yaa, affectionately known as Mena, serves as a Senior Director at Wawa Aba Wellness Corporation and is the spiritual consultant for Wawa Aba Amammere Fie in Jamaica, Florida, and Ghana. Enstooled in 2022 and honoured in 2024 with the title Akwansrahemma (Queen Mother) of Larteh-Benkum, Ghana, Nana Mena Yaa embodies a distinctive synthesis of cultural stewardship, spiritual leadership, and holistic healing.

Mena is a mother, grandmother, and godmother to many, fulfilling each role with the same grace she brings to her healing work. She lives in South Florida, where she manages a thriving medical practice with her spouse, Dr Robert Vassall, integrating wellness, cultural wisdom, and patient-centred care.

I have grown spiritually and learned to flow with life’s transitions. Even during the most challenging changes, the Nsamanfo (the Ancestors) remain a constant presence. I will always be divinely protected, and one in Nyame, with the people I have loved. Moving willingly and gratefully through my transitions deepens and strengthens my awareness of Odumankuma (The Great Spirit) and myself as a divine being.

When I meet my reflection, I encounter the many seasons of my becoming. I see the joyful child marked by innocence and discovery, the determined student shaped by growth and achievement, and the purposeful individual stepping into vocation and service. Within that same reflection, moments of grief and challenge also surface, not as wounds alone but as teachers. At each transition, the mirror invites evaluation, perception, and restoration, reminding me that every experience, whether joyful or painful, has contributed to aligning my spirit and to the unfolding of my truth.

"Through Restitution, we began the sacred work of releasing those inherited burdens, not in sorrow but in gratitude."
